pigging out
It took me 10 full minutes to be regain normal consciousness after hearing this Lovelight. I have never heard Pigpen this "on" or this good. His intuition/soul/musical timing is absolutely beyond belief here. Too bad the cut (which luckily fades)had to happen. It always feels as if my heart is ripped out when there is a cut just as the climax is about to happen. This is the first time I didn't care. This Lovelight is THAT good.

Not as good as the other version
Disclaimer: I'm grateful for ALL the shows available here, and to the tapers who preserved them for posterity, but I try to be accurate and consistent in my ratings.
This is an inferior version to the other one available here, but it has the advantage of the second set (missing from the other version). Like someone already said, grab the other version and round it out with Dark Star onward from this one.
Distortion and muddiness is evident here up until Dark Star, at which point a different source seems to kick in and the quality improves markedly.

Cool Dark Star, etc
From Dark Star to end, the sound is excellent with nice mix and great performances. Get this part (second set?) The beginning from other source sounds lousy in comparison. 4 1/2 stars for second set!

A sleeper
Jerry has a good night on guitar, and Pigpen is in good form. Jerry rips out an outstanding Bertha here, and there's a nice Mr. Charlie. Pigpen raps and Jerry smokes on the Lovelife suite (missing the very end, unfortunately), and I'm a Man is a treat, with Jerry playing the blues.
The sound isn't that great (a bit compressed and clipped at times) and the mix could be better (guitars a bit too soft, though you can hear Kieth's piano clearly). But definately worth a listen if not a download.

Hey Folks, Don't Tell Anybody But...
There's a good show here!
I think it snuck in under the radar or something because I'm writing the first review. Actually I just grabbed the Lovelight>King Bee>I'm A Man>Lovelight sequence for filler and found a fine recording too!
I sure do miss that Pig music. Thank the Archive once more, we all can hear the grateful rapper/blues improvisor extraordinaire strut his stuff.
